Muhammad’s wives
According to many islamic and non-islamic sources Muhammad seems to have had over 30 wives and concubines.
Muhammad was a 51 year old man when he married the six years old Aisha.
Sahih Bukhari – Volume 1, Book 5, Hadith 268
Narrated Qatada: Anas bin Malik said, “The Prophet used to visit all his wives in a round, during the day and night and they were eleven in number.” I asked Anas, “Had the Prophet the strength for it?” Anas replied, “We used to say that the Prophet was given the strength of thirty (men).” And Sa’id said on the authority of Qatada that Anas had told him about nine wives only (not eleven).
Sahih Bukhari – Volume 1, Book 5, Hadith 267
Narrated Muhammad bin Al-Muntathir: on the authority of his father that he had asked Aisha (about the Hadith of Ibn ‘Umar). She said, “May Allah be Merciful to Abu ‘Abdur-Rahman. I used to put scent on Allah’s Apostle and he used to go round his wives, and in the morning he assumed the Ihram, and the fragrance of scent was still coming out from his body.”
Sahih Bukhari – Volume 1, Book 5, Hadith 270
Narrated Muhammad bin Al-Muntathir: on the authority of his father that he had asked Aisha about the saying of Ibn ‘Umar (i.e. he did not like to be a Muhrim while the smell of scent was still coming from his body). Aisha said, “I scented Allah’s Apostle and he went round (had sexual intercourse with) all his wives, and in the morning he was Muhrim (after taking a bath).”
Sahih Bukhari -Volume 7, Book 62, Hadith 5
Narrated ‘Ata: We presented ourselves along with Ibn ‘Abbas at the funeral procession of Maimuna at a place called Sarif. Ibn ‘Abbas said, “This is the wife of the Prophet so when you lift her bier, do not Jerk it or shake it much, but walk smoothly because the Prophet had nine wives and he used to observe the night turns with eight of them, and for one of them there was no night turn.”

Narrated Anas: The Prophet I used to go round (have sexual relations with) all his wives in one night, and he had nine wives.

Muhammad’s special marriage privileges
Quran: 33:50 “Oh prophet! We have made your wives lawful for you provided their agreed nuptial-dower has been paid and the slave women Allah has granted you. (Other women lawful for you to marry are): the daughters of your paternal uncles and aunts and the daughters of your maternal uncles and aunts _ those of them who migrated with you (from Makkah) and the believing woman who wants to enter the prophet’s household as his wife and he wants to espouse her. This (more than four wives) is an exemption especially for you, not for any other believer. We know what We have mandated for the believers concerning their wives, and the captive women. You are exempted so as to remove the difficulty you face! (The difficulty: the taboo, the culturally imposed restriction against marrying the former wives of the adopted sons, had to be broken by an actual example. It had to be done without divorcing any of the existing wives. The solution: suspend the limit of four wives for the prophet). Allah is the most Forgiving and the most Merciful. NB: Another taboo broken by this divinely ordained marriage was the restriction against cousin marriages. The woman was the prophet’s first cousin.”
Muhammad marries the ex-wife (Zainab) of his adopted son (Zaid). His son in law divorced her with the Prophet standing in the background. In fact, early Islamic sources say that Muhammad catches a glimpse of his daughter—in—law in a state of undress, so he desired her.
Q33:37 “You said to the man who had been favoured by God and by you, Keep your wife to yourself and have fear of God. You sought to hide in your heart what God wished to reveal. You were afraid of people, whereas it would have been more proper to fear God. When Zayd divorced his wife, We gave her to you in marriage, so that there should be no restriction on believers marrying the spouses of their adopted sons when they have divorced them. The commandment of God must be fulfilled.”

“You are a self-respecting girl, but the prophet is a womanizer.” Words spoken by the disappointed parents of a girl who had ‘offered’ herself to Muhammad (he accepted).
